One aspect of my own individuality is my habit of being frequently
barefoot. When I was a kid, I used to go “bumbershooting” - this
is what we called wading through puddles in the rain. We carried umbrellas,
even though they did very little to keep us dry! I suppose part of the fun
of being barefoot is recapturing that spirit of fun and adventure from childhood.
I’ve incorporated this sense of fun into many of my paintings by using
actual footprints in the work.
